"Weird Al" Fans to Target Rock Hall with Petition Tour
As "Weird Al" Yankovic prepares to embark on his first US tour in three years, his fans are asking people across the country to take part in a massive petition drive to help put the top ten parodist into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Operated solely by fans, the Cleveland-based Make the Rock Hall "Weird" campaign is looking for Yankovic admirers to help circulate a petition that will be sent to the Hall of Fame Foundation in New York to urge them to induct the Grammy-winning singer best known for making fun of Michael Jackson, Chamillionaire, Nirvana, and countless others. Fans are needed to take the petition to concerts on Yankovic's upcoming tour, with volunteers already scheduled to cover over thirty shows so far.
"Weird Al is rock and roll's premier satirist," says organizer Greg Method, explaining why Yankovic should be inducted. "No other mainstream recording artist has made a successful career out of making fun of the genre."
Those who have supported Yankovic on this petition include Leslie Nielsen, Patton Oswalt, Emo Philips, and singer James Blunt, among others.
A full tour itinery is on the campaign's web site at www.allthingsyank.com/rockhall.
