Review: Greencards at the Granada in Dallas Texas

"It was my pleasure to experience The Greencards at the Granada on Greenville Avenue in Dallas. Music with a passion surpassed only by it's execution. Pure musical genius at so many levels. The Greencards were nothing short of spectacular. It would be an understatement and misunderstanding to define this band by a genre, culture or continent. I watched an exhibition of transcendent exuberance. It was a celebration in sound. The Greencards are capable of delivering a bluegrass theme framed in Appalachian tradition, flavored with a freshness, "the twist". It might have just been my imagination, influenced by my knowledge of their Australian origins, but I think I was catching influences from haunting under-tones of Aboriginal didjeridoos produced by the viola and fiddle of Eamon McLaughlin. It seemed like a nod to a cultural influence carried by The Greencards across continents and time. Carol Young the group's lead singer and bass player was stunning with sensitive ballads and three part harmony when Kym Warner, on Mandolin, joined Eamon for vocals. Eamon's fiddle was, at times, both sensitive and haunting while capable of sucking the last breath of oxygen from the theater in a cyclonic furry. The instrumental solos were life memories. Folk, country, bluegrass or Americana, I heard it all with a genre smoothing elegance. Carol was a lesson in charisma, playing an electric bass with a grace un-match by any bass player I have ever seen. Kym's exhibition on mandolin was inspirational. I have rarely seen fingers so unencumbered by the mechanics of an instrument that the expression of the music absolutely unaffected. The Greencards are delivered a soul fillingly culturally rich, modern, original interpretation, of traditional folk music that resulted in two standing ovations. The solos alternately moved the audience to tears of appreciation and extreme exhilaration. The Greencards are surprising. It was a concert of a lifetime. I highly recommend their latest CD "The Greencards Viridain" and a ticket to every performance you can make." The Music Critic - WorldEntertainmentNetwork.com

Randy McAllister's First Tuesday at the House of Blues in Dallas

"A rainy night in downtown Dallas started in the best way possible with Randy McAllister and his Band on a "House of Blues" stage in the urban hot spot they call "Uptown" in downtown Dallas. The "House of Blues" in Dallas is still a newcomer, a welcome addition to the Blues rich Dallas tradition. Long an internationally recognized Blues citadel, local Dallas' Bluesmen past and present have earned the respect of the music world as culturally influenced innovators. Randy McAllister has been proclaimed one of the best by Big City Blues, selected with Eric Clapton as one of two artists nominated in three international categories for Australia's Blue Star Awards. Randy McAllister has won
accolades for his high energy performances, cross genre compositions and last night proofed why. Playing a mix of Blues, Roots and Americana with Latin influences, Randy McAllister with an inspired Matt Woodburn on guitar and Billy Acord on bass started with some of Randy's latest releases from his "Dope Slap Soup" album.

Harp solos by Randy and guitar solos by Matt were only surpassed by the counterpoint duets that danced in irresistibly haunting melodies, pure genius. If you've never heard this band, you've never experienced the sounds and lives of Texans. Randy explores the
archetypical Texas in lightening flashes of inspiration better played in larger rooms without Plexiglass barriers. Chandeliers should rattle just as his music rattles the
soul when Matt Woodburn lets loose with a melodic East Texas woodsman's howl.

Randy and the band took the night into unrecorded territory with at least three amazing original compositions that aren't even on disc. Randy is known to have hundreds of unrecorded compositions with only a fraction recorded even with 8 solid CD's released. Some of his best work like "Perfect Day" is still only available live. If you didn't make it out last Tuesday, you still have time to experience this. Randy McAllister will be at the House of Blues every Tuesday in September. DO NOT MISS THIS. They are packing houses out across the US, everywhere they play. Make plans to see the remaining
three concerts. I personally guarantee it will be a life memory." - Reviewed by Music Critic - WorldEntertainmentNetwork.com

As "Weird Al" Yankovic prepares to embark on his first US tour in three years, his fans are asking people across the country to take part in a massive petition drive to help put the top ten parodist into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Operated solely by fans, the Cleveland-based Make the Rock Hall "Weird" campaign is looking for Yankovic admirers to help circulate a petition that will be sent to the Hall of Fame Foundation in New York to urge them to induct the Grammy-winning singer best known for making fun of Michael Jackson, Chamillionaire, Nirvana, and countless others. Fans are needed to take the petition to concerts on Yankovic's upcoming tour, with volunteers already scheduled to cover over thirty shows so far.

"Weird Al is rock and roll's premier satirist," says organizer Greg Method, explaining why Yankovic should be inducted. "No other mainstream recording artist has made a successful career out of making fun of the genre."

Those who have supported Yankovic on this petition include Leslie Nielsen, Patton Oswalt, Emo Philips, and singer James Blunt, among others.

Blues Cruise in Addison Wednesday Night

Dallas, TX - "Cool night, hot music... Bob Fisk's Blues Cruise rocks every Wednesday night. The guys blew the roof off with some of the best blues solos to catch drift on the night air in all of Dallas. It should be illegal to listen to that much talent for free. What's in the water in Dallas? Chris Ruest was melting strings most of the night with Rob Donavan playing some glass, rattling solos. Tony Decicco was on bass with an authentic blues voice upfront. Didn't get the drummer's name, great work. Fun night. Robert Green stepped in for a set or two on his 5-string bass and some mean bass solos. Others that set in included Craig, Jimmy Mac, Doug Leslie, and
Mike "Cornbread" Pinkerton. The pros left the stage to a group of newcomers (no names), probably the future with a few years practice. All in all a fantastic show of blues talent."

The Best Music In Dallas, Just Listen

Dallas Texas - Randy McAllister and Mike Morgan took the stage in the room at the top of the stairs in the historically elegant, Sons Of Hermann Hall in downtown Dallas along with Sonny Collie on bass and Matt Woodburn on guitar. This evening extended the Sons of Hermann Hall tradition of amazing concerts one more night in it's over 100 year history. Rarely has so much talent shared the same stage. Grammy nominee, Randy McAllister's soulful, rich voice was a constant reminder that McAllister's music is more than notes and words. He loads his compositions with the life he's lived, rich with emotion, experience and celebration. With the hall full, the ensemble played a steady stream of McAllister compositions with some rockin Mike Morgan tunes sprinkled in for variety like "I Feel So Good". The audience was even treated to a great Matt Woodburn tune that echoed with a woodsy howl of the powerful voice of Woodburn. Matt can really sing.

Randy McAllister delivered a stunning exhibition on harp early in the concert with his powerful "Esperanza" that left the audience in breathless awe quickly followed a series of harp featured tunes that proved his "Best in Texas" title had to be an underestimate of his capabilities. Harp playing only to be eclipsed by his vocals this night. Randy delivers a soul snatching bass to tenor range with a richness that will cause you to grab your chair as if you hit an air pocket flying at 10,000 feet. Never, have I seen dancers so totally stunned that they honestly forgot their steps, stopping to witness a dumb-founding guitar spectacular. And so went the evening until Randy took his sticks to the stage and wooden steps making the Sons of Hermann Hall vibrate with the rhythm of his "It's a Texas Thang". The highlight of the night was a new tune that stole the show, if that's even possible, McAllister's "Good Day" was like breath of fresh hope. The concert started with "Take Me Out of New Orleans", with other tunes including "Make Shift Molly", "Why", "Brother Bob's Church and Casino", "When I Get Home", and "Close Your Eyes" to mention just a few, This singer/songwriter is an absolute master of Texas Style Americana/Roots/Blues.

Mike Morgan is a legend, a deft right and lightening fast left with an ear for the perfect string. Mike defines Dallas style roots rock with some of the best guitar solos you will ever hear. In Mike's hands, the guitar and the man become one inseparable instrument, a second voice with unlimited range. Mike not only is a rock star, he plays better than any in the business. His guitar solo's are 3 dimensional. Dynamically played point and counter-point, stage rattling, hard rockin roots contrasted by subtle pianissimo machismo. Mike Morgan easily defended his legend status.

Matt Woodburn was dialed in. His fingers were flying like he was playing for life itself. Incredible, awe inspiring guitar solos that stretched beyond imagination all the way to inspiration. The style? His own. Original. No classic rock poses. Just flat out exhibition of heat on metal strings.

Sonny Collie, the often unheralded bass is incredible. His vocal contribution, stage presence, and the strings. It's not often you see a bass that plays with the experience and skill that can keep up with a Randy McAllister. His vocals were a perfect compliment to the McAllister, Woodburn, and Morgan sound. But the bass solos were incredible thunder punching stand-outs.

If you missed this concert, you missed the performance of a lifetime. This concert was worth 5 times the ticket price. Randy McAllister, Mike Morgan, Mat Woodburn and Sonny Collie played Dallas the same night as Jerry Lee Lewis. It was hard to miss the irony. Jerry Lee Lewis was in town and he probably missed the best show of the night. It was a $12 ticket at the Sons of Hermann Hall. He would have loved it.

A comfortable chair with legendary Randy McAllister and Mike Morgan playing solos to a boot packed house. The perfect Texas night. Just north of downtown Fort Worth some of the best music on earth was rocking the house into the morning as Grammy Nominee, Randy McAllister, took the stage with guitar legend Mike Morgan for a two set performance that lasted well over 5hrs. Fans that paid the ticket experienced the kind of concert that makes a lifetime memory. The sets were predominately Randy McAllister compositions with some meaty Mike Morgan originals strategicly interspursed. A refreshing breeze blew the music through the open doors of the classic juke box.

A magic night that confirmed North Texas as the music capital of the world. Amazing talent was expected and delivered with McAllister's hard blowin harp, Matt Woordburn and Mike Morgan wailed on guitars, veteran bassman Sonny Collie played an animated, smooth fingered, bass and the McAllister vocals were perfect. Depending on the title, Brad on keyboards rocked in with that rich blues/rock Hammond Organ or hard bangin, honky tonk, piano. Inspired guitar talkin solos became almost common until you realized nobody plays like this.

Titles like "That Chickin Your Fixin", "Baptist Church Van", "It's a Texas Thing", were among 20 plus performed from McAllister's and Morgan's recent releases. They delivered everything promised. These guys are better in person than even their rockin hot CD's. Move over Buddy, Stevie and Willie, these Texas originals deserve the recognition in Texas for the legends they have become worldwide. How is it even possible they are still doing 200 seat rooms? No place but talent-rich Texas I guess. These guys are explosive.

The band was rockin' and the dance floor shakin with all the doors wide open. It was a lone star blow out! We left at 2am with the band still playing. Parking lot full of Harleys and Caddies in the shadow of downtown Fort Worth. The night air vibrated, as all of Fort Worth got a parking blanket concert from a corner stage of the historic J&J's Blues Bar.

Prove me wrong. I challenge every music critic, every entertainment reporter, every blues and rock blogger to the next local appearance for this talented mix in Dallas at the Sons of Herman Hall on March 30th. I dare them to write another record label inspired, promotional paragraph for an over hyped "big name" tour while true Texas talent struggles for minor league coverage. It's time tell the public what's really happening in Texas music.
